In stepping away from my career as an Operating Room Nurse Manager, one of the gifts I wanted to give myself was the time to process all of the lessons and learning I had absorbed or actively pursued over the years. One thing I felt most passionate about and loved doing as a nurse leader was helping staff get through tough times mentally, emotionally or physically. The job we do is hard enough and takes it’s toll. When life outside of work is not going smoothly it is difficult to not let it interfere with our job of caring for patients. This is true for any job but the stakes are so much higher when someone’s life is literally in our hands.
